Introduction -- Part I. Bible -- Communities of origin ; Creationism ; Finding answers ; My church lied to me ; Finding deeper faith with C.S. Lewis -- Part II. Time -- God's weekly planner ; Keeping time ; God's priorities ; Rethinking time and the Bible ; Finding deeper faith with Arundhati Roy and G.K. Chesterton -- Part III. Species -- What is a human? ; Our closest cousins ; Our ancestry in baseball cards ; Degrees and kinds in the caves ; Finding deeper faith among the redwoods -- Part IV. Soul -- What happened to the soul? ; Bones and relics ; Learning to walk ; What walking does for the soul ; Finding deeper faith with Helen Keller -- Part V. Pain -- Human evil ; Natural evils? ; What God can't do ; Building morality ; Evolving image bearers ; Finding deeper faith with Simone Weil -- Conclusion. Despite more than a century of philosophers and scientists wrestling with the relationship between evolution and religion, many people still struggle to reconcile the two. Jim Stump discovered this firsthand when he had to leave his position as a professor at a Christian college because he was open to asking these questions, and decided to approach the topics as a philosopher, scientist, and writer to research, learn, travel the world, and tell stories. Along the way, a big picture emerged that is consistent with the scientific findings about who we are and where we come from, and is consistent with religious faith.

The result is The Sacred Chain, which seeks to open the dialogue on this contentious issue by drawing on philosophy, theology, and the latest scientific research to tackle some of the biggest questions today, such as: How can we hold the Bible as a sacred text and yet reconcile modern science with it? If humans are created in the image of God, what does evolution have to teach us about our species and understanding our place in creation? How can we understand the soul if the human body is the product of evolution? How does the evolutionary science help us understand how God might use pain and suffering for important and good purposes?

Deeply researched and a delight to read, The Sacred Chain provides clarity in our uncertain times, revealing a bigger picture of our world and our place within it. It is a panorama consistent with the scientific findings about who we are and where we come from that can actually bolster our faith as it engages our curiosity about ourselves, our universe, and the nature of existence itself.

But now American fighting men--proven on the bloody beaches of Normandy and in the minefields of Korea--are summoned to help beat back the guerilla forces of Ho Chi Minh. To some, the "secret" war in Indochina was the depth of folly. To others, like the Majors, it pointed to the heights of glory...

Popular travel writer and podcaster Katie Campbell roams the world collecting other people's stories. She's built a career as "Miss Adventure," known for saying yes to anything new--country, food, or experience--and predictably finding those adventures taking a downward turn into misadventures.

Offered the chance to explore her ancestral roots through a three-week Edwardian experience, Katie finds herself immersed in the beauty and eccentricity of Scotland. In her period attire, with traditional foods and activities, the opportunities for misadventures are endless, especially with the presence of a maniacal macaw, a jealous co-worker, and an all-too-surly Scotsman.

Reclusive and protective Graeme MacKerrow doesn't venture far from his island home. A stoic Scotsman, Graeme's comfort zone has always been family, and after his sister's death, he's even more determined to save the MacKerrow ancestral home and keep those he loves close. The sudden intrusion of a six-foot-one American lass, famous for her traveling misfortunes, was far from his plan.

As this world of folklore, community, and woodworkers-in-kilts tempts Katie to discover her own story, could this one grand series of misadventures lead her directly to where she belongs? And would a settled-in-Scot ever risk loosening his grip on what's familiar to allow a wanderlust writer a home in his heart? How could their very different worlds share the same page of life's story when "home" is in two very different places? But maybe home--and the future--isn't quite what either one imagined it would be. Maybe home is less about a place . . . and more about a person.

Everyone in Washington knows Madeleine and Jack Hunter. Maddy is an award-winning TV anchorwoman. Jack is the head of her network, an adviser to the President on media issues. To the world, theirs is a storybook marriage. Two brilliant careers. A long, loving partnership. But behind the locked doors of their lush Georgetown home, a very different story emerges. For as Maddy's career soars, a bitter edge has crept into Jack's words, a pattern of subtle put-downs, control, and jealousy that Maddy has always tried to ignore and deny. For Maddy, there are no bruises, no scars, only the daggers of fear, humiliation, and isolation. Their effect as powerful as the gun, the knife, or the fist, the wounds as deep. Through hard work, long years, and with Jack's help, Maddy has become a role model and a star. It seems impossible to believe that a woman the nation idolizes lives in degradation and fear. Only Maddy knows the terror in her heart. Her secrets are well kept, sometimes even from herself.

Maddy's journey to healing begins when the President's wife offers an extraordinary opportunity, the chance to join her newly formed Commission on Violence Against Women. There, Maddy hears chilling stories from terrified wives and girlfriends that sound eerily familiar. And there she comes to know Bill Alexander, a distinguished scholar and diplomat who also works on the commission. Bill suspects that something is terribly wrong in Maddy's marriage and begs her to open her eyes. And as Maddy slowly, painfully takes the first steps toward freedom, as she and Bill grow closer, a remarkable series of events begins to unfold...a stranger from Maddy's past suddenly reappears...White House headlines bring the nation to a standstill...and a devastating tragedy occurs, forcing Maddy to realize just how much she has lost and how much has been taken from her--her confidence, her trust, her self-respect. As she is faced with the most difficult choice of her life, Maddy's extraordinary journey comes to a close, and with it comes a strength she never knew she had and a gift she never could have expected--a gift that will change her life forever.

Ingrid Dahl, a cheerful twenty-nine-year-old librarian in the cozy mountain town of Ridgetop, North Carolina, has been happily dating her college boyfriend, Cory, for over a decade without ever discussing marriage. But when Ingrid’s younger sister becomes engaged, Ingrid and Cory feel pressured to consider their future. Neither has ever been with anybody else, so they make an unconventional decision. They’ll take a monthlong break to date other people, then they’ll reunite and move toward marriage. It doesn’t matter that everyone else thinks the idea is foolish; Ingrid is confident it will work. She even has someone in mind: her charmingly grumpy coworker, Macon Nowakowski, whom she’s secretly pined over for years. But plans go awry, and when the month ends, the experiment doesn’t—leading Ingrid into a messy, challenging, exhilarating reevaluation of her entire life over the course of a year. And through it all remains Macon, the harmless crush that is turning into something much more complicated.

The ritualistic murder of a British professor at the University of Exeter points to a startling cast of suspects: his own students. All are enrolled in a postgraduate program covering the history of witchcraft, folklore, and spiritualism.

All evidence points to Sharyn Karr—an American student. Prior to the professor’s death, he had thrust a centuries-old book upon her. It appears to be the handwritten and encrypted diary of an eighteenth-century mystic and occultist, the Comte de Saint-Germain. The professor begged her to keep the text safe, ending with a warning: Trust no one.

Such a responsibility forces her into cooperation with Duncan Maxwell, a fellow postgrad and the sixteenth in line to the British Crown. Already, Duncan has proven himself a savant with encryptions. Unfortunately, the pair clash at every level, but they both need one another. Especially when they discover the book’s opening words: Herein lies the secret to my immortality. Come find me, if you dare.

As dark forces close upon the pair, she and her friends are forced to flee, pursued by law enforcement and hunted by a powerful cabal. In an explosive chase across Europe—from the Tower of London to Parisian chateaus to a fortress in the Italian Alps—Sharyn must learn the true secret hidden in Saint-Germain’s text. It will send her and the others across history and deep into the heart of one of the world’s greatest mysteries, a secret buried at the roots of Western Civilization, a discovery that could topple empires and change humanity forever.

For what lies at the end of Saint-Germain’s diary is as shocking as its opening words.

Open letter from Laurie Odjick ; Connie Greyeyes' speech on Parliament Hill ; Endnotes ; List of reports consulted. As the nation continues to be shocked by reports of violent attacks on Indigenous women and by the release of alarming statistics, Canadians can no longer deny that we are in the midst of a national tragedy -- a feminicide -- and that there has been a systemic failure on the part of law enforcement and of all levels of government to address the issue.

Journalist Emmanuelle Walter spent close to two years investigating this crisis and has crafted a moving account of one example among the many. Since 2008, two young women, Maisy Odjick and Shannon Alexander; teenagers from western Quebec, have been missing. Via personal testimonies, interviews, press clippings and official documents, Walter pieces together the disappearance and the loss of these two young lives, revealing these women to us through the voices of family members and witnesses.

Stolen Sisters is a moving and deeply shocking work of investigative journalism that breathes life into the numbers and news reports and clearly shows how Canada is failing First Nations communitites.

Canadian author. Denial of the truth -- Awareness and acknowledgement of the truth -- Acceptance and facing responsibility of the path of truth and reconciliation -- Moving forward on the path of healing together. For more than 10 years, Phyllis Webstad has shared her Orange Shirt Story to an international audience and advocated for the rights of Indigenous Peoples. Because of this, Phyllis is able to provide a unique perspective into the social consciousness on Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. Each chapter features key insights from Phyllis and stories from her personal journey.

Co-written my Metis Scholar Kristy McLeod, Decolonization and Me guides readers through a series of sensitive conversations and challenges us to explore decolonization, indigenization, healing, and the individual responsibility towards Truth and Reconciliation.

Phyllis and Kristy provide readers with an opportunity to witness, reflect, and heal, with empathy. They remind us to be intentional about the seeds we hope to plant for the future, together.

Centered around the Orange Shirt Day movement, and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, readers are encouraged to unpack and reckon with denialism, biases, privilege, and the journey forward, on both a personal and national level.

When Lena overhears a conversation between her next-door neighbors, she thinks she must have misheard.

The Morgans are a kind, retired couple who recently moved to their sleepy suburban street in Bristol, where nothing ever happens. But to Lena, it sounded very much like they were planning a crime. Her family and friends tell her she must be mistaken. Yet Lena can't stop thinking about that strange conversation. What if they really are about to do something terrible?

What if she can prevent it?

Especially when doing something might help ease her conscience about her own dark past....

When a series of deaths within the small Cotswolds birdwatching community begins to unravel her village, Agatha and her team at Raisin Investigators are certain there has been foul play involved. Now, they must dig up decades' worth of tempestuous relationships and simmering secrets among the birdwatching enthusiasts of the village in order to prevent any further deaths.

But with Agatha's own relationship with John Glass on the rocks after he is called away on his job as a cruise ship dance instructor, and Sir Charles Fraith now attempting to step into John's shoes as her lover, Agatha has her work cut out for her.

Agatha will have to break out her binoculars and embrace her bitter side to solve the murders and wrangle the sickly-sweet temptations in her own life. Will she be able to gather all the breadcrumbs and put together the clues before she becomes a sitting duck herself?

The break-ins seem to have taken a violent turn when a friend of Agatha's is murdered during a raid on his shop. Although determined to nail the villains, Agatha still makes time to help Sir Charles Fraith prepare to stage a massive, hugely glamorous, promotional event in the grounds of his ancestral home, Barfield House.

When Agatha begins to receive death threats and narrowly avoids being abducted by kidnappers, she takes advantage of a previously arranged trip to Mallorca with her recent paramour, former police officer John Glass, to lie low for a while.

Can Agatha track down whoever it is that wants her dead, nail her friend's murderers and keep the romance alive too? It's a race against the clock as the Cotswolds' favorite PI rushes to put the pieces together before the seconds run out.

So when he's diagnosed with a terminal disease, he heads for the local funeral home carrying the blue suit he eventually wants to be buried in. But what no one knows is that Fechmeier secretly tucked something inside, turning the suit into a final, untraceable hiding spot.

It's a perfect plan. Until Fetch is brutally murdered by a mysterious killer who will stop at nothing to find the priceless object hidden in the suit.

Wasting no time, the cunning but unconventional police officer Roddy LaPointe opens an investigation into Fetch's murder, recruiting help from his friend, the brilliant 'Zig' Zigarowski. But it doesn't take long for Zig to discover the real reason Roddy cares so much about this case: Fetch's death is tied to Roddy's mother, who was murdered decades earlier.

As the relentless killer closes in, Roddy's twin sister--the enigmatic and volatile Nola Brown--starts investigating for herself, uncovering a sinister plot that reveals their mother's dark history, the true identity of her killer, and the shocking secret behind her death.
